Do Socket & See offer a combined Fuse Finder and Dead Circuit Tracer?: No, Socket & See offer a kit consisting of the Socket & See FFCB200 and the DCF200.
How do I get best results from my Socket & See DCF200?: The user is the return signal path for the receiver. This means that a constant grip on the receiver will give a constant signal, changing your grip will affect the quality of the signal. As the user is the return path the better the grounding of the operator, the stronger the signal will be. If the user touches an earthed appliance when they are using the receiver the signal will be stronger. When setting up the transmitter it is important that the green cable is connected to a good earth. The DCF200 comes with a Socket & See TELP10 connector, to allow easy earthing of the transmitter at a 13Amp socket outlet. If a socket outlet is not available then earthing can be achieved by using a crocodile clip secured to bonded metalwork or any other “earthed point”. Once the transmitter is connected to the conductor under test and switched on, the receiver should be away from the circuit when switched on. Slowly move the receiver towards the circuit until a signal is indicated and then move it away again. The receiver will now be operating at maximum sensitivity. Live circuits in close proximity to the cable being traced may interfere with the quality of the signal received, where possible isolate all circuits in the installation to ensure best results. Do not touch the cable you are tracing as this will “short out” the signal from the transmitter, this includes touching the outer insulation.

How do I use my Socket & See FFCB Fuse finder?: Connect the transmitter to the circuit using the provided plug or test leads. Switch on the receiver and place it next to the transmitter to ensure that the unit is working correctly. Find the distribution board at the place you will be using the FFCB at and, press and release the reset button on the receiver which maximises sensitivity. Keeping the receiver at the same angle and with a constant grip on the receiver, make at least two passes of the board, with the tip touching the fuse or MCB casing. This gives the receiver chance to compare the signals of the ‘in-place’ protective devices. When the receiver gives a solid tone and a maximum LED signal you can be sure that the correct device has been located.
How is the Socket & See FFCB transmitter fused?: UK mains to IEC lead is protected by a 13Amp BS1362 Fuse. Three-way fused test leads are protected by 600V, 10A, Fast Blow (F) fuses (6.3mm x 32mm). Internal protection of the transmitter is provided by a 500v, 1A, Slow-blow (T) fuse (6.3mm x 32mm). NB - If attempting to replace the transmitter internal fuse ensure that the unit is disconnected from the mains and take care not to touch any of the internal components as this may cause damage to the transmitter.
I am struggling to get a definitive signal from my Socket & See FFCB. What am I doing wrong?: Ensure that your mobile phone is off as the signal may interfere with the fuse finding process. The fuse finder signal is comparable rather than absolute so keep a constant grip on the receiver and maintain the same orientation or angle to allow for more accurate results. Make sure you make at least two passes of the distribution board to allow the receiver to compare all signals. Different makes and models of MCB’s may give off varying signals. To find the best signal rotate the receiver through 360° (without resetting the receiver memory). When you have found the orientation where the strongest signal is received, reset the memory and scan the row of MCB’s.
I am using a Scocket & See FFCB and the ‘RCVR ON LED’ is flashing on the receiver. What does this mean?: The 9V battery in the receiver has less than 20% charge left and will soon need replacing.
I have a Socket & See LOD10 Locking Off Device which is locked and have lost the combination, can I reset the code?: Unfortunately, if the device is locked, the code cannot be reset. The LOD10 is no longer operational.
I need to positively identify which protective device supplies a live circuit. Which Socket & see product should I use?: The Socket & See FFCB range can quickly and accurately locate which fuse or MCB is supplying a 230v or 110v circuit. The FFCB range is supplied with various attachments to allow connection at both domestic and industrial sockets. Fused test leads are also included to enable connection at a fused spur or terminal.
What can my Socket & See DCF200 be used for?: The DCF200 is for use on DEAD CIRCUITS ONLY. The circuit being used must be safely isolated and mechanically locked off. Once confident that the circuit is dead the DCF200 can be used for • Fuse Finding - locating which MCB or fuse is feeding a dead circuit • Wire Tracing- Tracing wires through floors and walls • Wire Picking – Picking the correct wire from a bundle or loom • Circuit Identification – Finding a circuit by identifying the individual conductor • Wire break detection – Locating a break in a wire or a disconnection in the circuit

It will easily trace cables routed through plastic trunking and conduit, however, the FFCB may struggle to trace cables that are buried within wall cavities or conduits which are screened to earth. NB – Remember, when tracing cables and moving away from the transmitter, reset the receiver memory at regular intervals to increase sensitivity.
What is the difference between a Socket & See SOK22 and a SOK32?: The SOK22 is a simple socket tester and has single coloured neon's to indicate the fault condition whereas the SOK32 has twin coloured neon's and conducts a self-check upon being connected to a live socket.
